Thanks to the 71 people who attended our June 4th Benefit Dinner over $4,000.00 have been added to our Mission Fund.... more than enough to get the plane ticket for Aarica Humke to go. The Social Concnerns Committee had agreed earlier to cover the cost of Megan's airfare out of the money already in the Mission Fund.
All five going have their visas, immunizations, and plane tickets! We leave June 30th and return July 10th. Our last note from Fr. John Fortune on June 8th was:
Dear Fr. Steve and all
Thanks for the email and the news. It is good to hear that your pre trip preparations are going well and are being supported well.
Here things are well. The greenhouse was to have been erected but something came up on the side of the company so they said it will be a few more days before they can send their technician. We have already done the piping and put up the tank. The kits for the garden were delivered to Ewuaso on Tuesday. I bought 10 units. I had them delivered there as it has storage space until be can bring them to Saikeri in our tractor. On Friday. I will bring one set in order to show and explain to the people when I am there for mass this coming Sunday. At the moment there is a problem of water as the transformer blew up and we have been chasing them for the last few weeks for a replacement. Hopefully soon they will get around to it.
I know what you experienced with the online visa application as I had to go through the the same thing in December when I returned from accompanying the body of one of our priests to Ireland and my work permit was expired. Glad it went ok. I hope the yellow fever certificates were not such a chore.
As we have the kindergarten school with almost 150 children, materials are always welcome.
Please send on your flight details and arrival time. Looking forward to seeing you all. God bless for now.
